Conversations With Marva: What The Hell?!?

That's pretty wild. I abhor violence but there are some teachers who I'm sure I would have had a great time going head to head against. ...I know that sounds bad.

Lol, that was at Stephenson HS, which is not a bad school really I think this was an isolated incident, but you do have a trend around the country with the kids fighting teachers I think youtube and cell phone videos are making it worse.

What in the world is going on!!! This is a mess! The teacher probably swung first!
  • Mike · 1 year ago
Why would you think the teacher swung first?!

Look at the tape...the girl jumps off the desk and approaches the teacher and the teacher swings on her...at least that's the way it looks...

I have been seeing this all over the news. I think it is not only a hot mess but, sad.
I hope this isn't the future of schools.

This is a mess. I'm a teacher and I'll be honest I won't back down from child. These kids have no respect. Teachers should get hazard pay because we do a dangerous job. It's sad to sa but so true.

    WTF!!!!

Thats why I stopped working with kids. My patience is not that good. That scene looked crazy! As an individual, you have the right to protect yourself against anyone. And yes even if they are under the age of 18. Did you see the size of the student? I couldn't tell which was which!

Darn, the video is no longer available, but I would have loved to have seen it. My aunt works in the school system and she don't take no ish from none of the kids she works with. I wish I could see the video and actually see a teacher brawl with a student! Did the teacher win!? LOL! OK, seriously, kids can be terrible!

I think it IS sad and a mess. I have friends that teach and have the same complaints: "Kids have no respect for them". And when they take the situation to the parents, the parents verbally attack THEM. If the parents won't hold their kids accountable and teach/make their kids show some respect, what are the teachers left to do? I don't suggest they walk around fighting every student that says something they don't like; but, I do agree that in this day and age, they have to defend themselves. I have two kids of my own and I wish they would even THINK about approaching a teacher in that way. If there's a problem in a classroom, I tell them that it is for ME to handle, not them. Anyway, that's my two cents.

As a teacher/educator, I learned very early "not to bite" when students test you. Unfortunately, this teacher "took the bate" and will probably not teach another day of her life. It's probably - because she's a sub - that she may not be a licensed teacher with a degree in education. I know many folks with a couple of years of college who substitute in the school system here. If this is the case in this situation, this woman was put into classroom with no formal training in education and classroom management. That is certainly a formula for disaster.

But, having said all that, if the student swung first, the teacher has to defend herself - and if that had happened to me, I probably would have beat her a$$ till it rope like okra!
