Conversations With Marva: Top 10 Favorite Hip Hop Albums

Nice list. Why is there no Tribe? Are you pulling a Lupe Fiasco? LOL! Things Fall Apart is Fantastic and of course The Miseducation of Lauryn and the Score.
  • MarvalusOne · 2 years ago
You are crazy! Ahh, Tribe...I honestly had to decide between them and Nas...obviously, Nas won...
  • Danielle · 2 years ago
Yes Nas did win. That's alright though. :-) I tuned Pac out alot. His self-destructiveness and hateful attitude became too much for me to digest. I still miss him and I'm still mad @ him @ the same time.

Andre ad Big Boi are a fanstastic duo. My favorite from Outkast is Aquemini...nothing beats that album for me. Total brilliance.

I loved Snoop back when he was yong and hungry. I still say his collabo w/Dre on the "Deep Cover" soundtrack was some of the best rap I've ever heard. Snoops flow was tight and Dre's production was outstanding.

I have to admit (ssh, don't tell nobody) after All Eyez on Me...Pac became so angry that I was almost a little mad at him myself...when Don Killuminati came out, I was like, "This ain't the Pac I know," then he up and got himself killed (I still think Suge had a lot to do with his attitude and his death)...but I love him, the early stuff was brilliant...

Man, I keep hoping that all the Outkast breakup shit is just them taking a break...they are just too good together...Stankonia...woo! Aquemini...woo! Speakerboxx/The Love Below...magic!

I loved Snoop back then too...the boy was just good...then he got some change in his pocket and lost the hunger...oh, well, it be's that way sometime, I guess...

    Hey Mike...

Life After Death was just...too much for me...

Blueprint was classic...The Black Album just holds a special place...and yes I have heard the American Gangster...it is growing on me...I kinda want him to sit down for a minute though...

I love all Outkast so anything would have been ok...

I'll stop and check out the blog...

Well, I at least like all the albums on your list. Well, I can't say I like or dislike the black album since I never listened to it; but I liked the singles that were out.

Illmatic is still a lyrical clinic. The score was an amazing compalation of sound and styles, and was a breath of fresh air to the sterile copy cat gangsterism of it's time. That Makeveli joint was a brotha's soul on record, though Me Against The World remains my favorite of his.

Hey, you might like my <a href"http://www.blackperspective.net/index.php/albums-that-changed-your-life-pt3/"Albums That Changed Your Life serires.

i like that Southernplayalistic... and Aquemini album from Outkast. hell, all of the Outkast albums would be in my top 10. also Criminal Minded by Boogie Down Productions. Ice Cube, Death Certificate.

i like your list except i hated IllMatic. still do.

    nice blog

    The Chronic: Dre's best.
    Lauryn Hill: Definitely her best.
The Black Album: My second favorite Jay-Z album behind 'Blueprint Gift/Curse'
    Doggystyle: Best Snoop ever.
    Speakerboxx/Love Below: Insane OutKast-their best!

The other albums I can not comment on because I have never heard them. I am not a fan of Nas and though I like Biggie, I was never a true fan; he was a great storyteller though. Pac's two greatest song were 'I Wonder If Heaven's Got A Ghetto' and 'I Ain't Madatcha'; other than that, I was not a Pac fan either. I like the 'Roots' too, but not a die-hard fan, but I do have one of their CD's. Fugees as a group I did not care for, but Lauryn Hill's first solo album is beautiful.

Yobachi...well put about Illmatic...and Makaveli...Pac and Nas both knew how to put their souls on wax, didn't they?

Darkbrother...Outkast could rap the Alphabet and I'd buy it...they are just tight! That Ice Cube Death Certificate was definitely a close 11, but I cut it off at 10! (((giggles)))
    Thanks for the compliment!

Mr. Marcus...You know, I love Jay-Z...always have, always will; he's one of those cats where he could possibly do no wrong in my book...I even like The Blueprint more than The Black Album; it's just the Black Album is special to me because it's supposed to be the end; it is supposed to be the finale and I thought, a great way to end a career. That's why it's here and not The Blueprint...

Scootermonk...Thanks! I wanted the list to reflect my all-time favs...so De La, KRS (I love Boogie Down but not as much as Pac, Jay, and The Fugees) and Rakim (the master, I agree) all receive an honorable 11-20 placement...

Thank you all for visiting...and Yobachi, I will definitely check out that series...I have a few albums that changed my life!
