Conversations With Marva: To Protect And Serve

This is my first time seeing the whole tape. I really want all police officers to learn from this. I can't even imagine the emotions that Ryan was going through. I know I would've probably run the red light too. I understand that the officer stopped him, and it's automatic for the officer to be put on the defensive when someone jumps out of the car. BUT, once the family explained the situation I think he could've eased up in his tone. And they were going to a hospital. It's not like they were just joy riding. And, how damn long does it take to write a ticket? And then to lecture the family even after all that.

Thank godness for cameras & audio in police cars. This probably wouldn't have come to light otherwise.

All in all, this policeman used his badge and his uniform to hold this man up unnecessarily.

And I agree with you about the cameras and audio...

I can't finish the video clip.

First, the driver appeared to be speeding while running stoplights with hazards. That's clearly something to investigate and stop a vehicle for and within rights.

Police can be very abrasive, but the turning point was when the officer started to abuse his authority. My stomach turned when the black driver knew what he was up against and repeated "Yes, sir!"

I'm glad to hear that someone apologized, but sometimes that's not good enough.

When will this cycle end! *shaking my head*

Some life lessons are harder than others are.

I read that the cop resigned, also that "Powell later issued an apology, which Moats accepted."
