Conversations With Marva: Sunday’s Thoughts, pt. 2: The ‘N’ Word

"if a white person called me a nigga, nigger, or whatever, I would be upset, yes, but I would tell them that I am not the kind of nigga they think I am and that they might want to rethink the use of that word around me."

LOL man you are a much better person than I am. They might as well go ahead and throw me under the jail, no trial. The way I look at it is I got my brother from the same mother we may go at and I will call him out his name. But if some one not family does it there is a big problem.
I dont care how down a white person is I dont want to hear it. They have not been were I have been gone through what I have to say it.

Same thing for the bitch word never called a woman that (to her face) never will thats between the sistas.

That's the "corporate Marva" talking..."Sister Marva" may have a different response...it all depends on where and when the nigga word is used...

Now with the bitch thing...I've been told "You acting like a bitch" by a dude, never has he said "You a bitch"...I think that's two different things...I still went off...but that's a different story in itself...but between sistas, it's just casual convo...

I don't use the N-Word unless I want to be derogatory and I've said it maybe 10 times in my whole life. I was raised by my grandmother and an older generation of folk for whom that word is offensive because it meant dehumanization and sometimes death if they weren't careful.

I don't knock anyone who chooses to use it, but no matter how you spell it or who claims it, it's still the same derogatory dehumanizing ass word.

We sure do have more important things to worry about, so that's all I have to say on this subject.

That's exactly my point...there are too many other bigger issues to deal with than the word...I know it is dehumanizing and demeaning, but stopping the use of the word is not going to solve any of the bigger issues facing Black folks...

    Thanks for your comment...

The whole "burial" that the NAACP conducted what just flat out ridiculous. I'm not going to even get into that because I'll go on forever about that damn organization.

I try my hardest not to use it but sometimes it slips, maybe im wrong but if a blackperson calls me a nigga, nigger, negro or whatever, its not a big deal no matter how they meant it, Im looking past that into whatever follows, but if someone non-black says it, then I get that feeling like when you were little and you mom came to the school and caught you in the middle of your Micheal Jackson routine grabbing your nuts and screaming during Ms. Deans reading class.
