Man, Im glad I missed it than.
  • Marvalus · 6 months ago
    You didn't miss much...believe that.

You are pissed to the highest pissivity and I with you all the way on this. My head is still swimming. I still don't understand what was that mess. I can't put together articulate sentences.

I was in a VERY special place when I wrote this...reading it again puts me there all over again...yes, pissed off is the only way to describe my feelings...

That sh*t was a hot mess. I honestly wished that they would have not tried to give a tribute show at all and did something at a later date.

I am still shaking my head about that . . .I am so hot.

Even my daughter, at 13, was livid with BET. She kept saying I thought you said they were going to do a tribute to MIchael Jackson. As if I told her a lie. Which I guess I did.
And for a child who loves today's music almost cry because she wanted a proper tribute to an icon. . .you know it was bad.
And even without the tribute that show sucked.

What did I expect BET hasn't been worth watching since forever.

And from the promos for the new shows, Tiny and Toya, it won't be worth watching for years to come.
I am about ready to put that station on lock with the parental control option, I don't want my children watching that shucking and jiving sh*t.

And I am so with you. . .F*CK BET.

The only enjoyment I got out of those awards was the commentary on Twitter...and some of the performances...

They can kiss my entire ass...I will not watch that channel again.

I KNEW you were going to write about this. Me and my friends had a facbook convo during the show and everyone was in shock at the coonery displayed. First off, if you're going to honor someone (especially MJ) dammit do it right. And, I'm not buying BET's excuse that they didn't have proper time to plan. When the Rhiranna/Chris Brown fiasco went down the Grammys filled their slots WITHIN HOURS and the performers didn't miss a beat. I liked Ne-Yo, Maxwell, and Jay-Z's performances. Everyone else can kick rocks.

And, from a production note...the director, executive producer, and audio guys/ladies need to not ever work again. SMDH

We were on Twitter during the entire show and it was just unreal the amount of contempt that was coming forth.

Time is no excuse for what they did or did not do...

Since my cable company doesn't have BET, I'll have to check with my sister to see if she recorded the awards show. Based on what you've said, BET would have been better off postponing the show until they could do it right.

By the way, I don't think I have ever heard you this fired up before... I like it.
  • Marvalus · 6 months ago
I would have liked it better if they would have had a moment of silence while showing pictures or playing a montage of vids...something like that would have been better than what they did.

    It was disrespectful...

This is me, passionate about what I see as a slap in the face to someone I idolized, Malcolm...I don't think I've been this fired up before either...it felt good to get it out.

I missed it. I have been settling for the biographies. I'm surE i'VE WATCHED AT LEAST 5.
  • Marvalus · 6 months ago
No, you didn't miss anything...it wasn't even worth it.

The biographies? I've watched probably twice as many as you, and quite frankly, I'm at my limit. It took a while, but I'm ready to let him rest and go on now...

Boy, so many people are seething over this. Did you see the Top 10 Reasons Why BET Made Me Want to Vomit?

Thanks for commenting on Lil Wayne at New Orleans Literature Examiner, Marvalus.
  • Marvalus · 6 months ago
Nordette - Yes, I read that over at SoulBounce, right?

You are very welcome...the comments over there are something else. "He's getting his?" And that makes it all right? We seem to have lost something somewhere, where putting others before yourself is more important. Where common decency and using your mind and making the right choice is the norm...

I want to give up, but I can't...I have a son that I can't lose to this bull...

Love your passion and agree with EVERYTHING you said! And as far as the new shows BET was promoting, I thought they were supposed to be turning over a new leaf and providing more insightful programs? Obviously, I got it wrong. (LOL) Looked like more of the same ole ignorance to me . . . possibly worse.
  • Marvalus · 6 months ago
Thank you Lori...don't even get me started on the shows...I can't even go there!

I've been on a ban of BET since they showed that awards show...I refuse to watch it...if I could have it removed from my cable lineup, I would...in fact, let me call the cable company and see if that is possible...
  • KayC, The Quiet Storm · 6 months ago
I am not mad at you AT ALL for the comments on that farse of a show. Which is why I have not watched an awards show in quite some time before I attempted to watch this one. I couldn't make it through 30 minutes before I reached for the remote.

I have the same problem with radio which is why I listen to a LOT of internet radio (email me and I'll send you some links). They give you artists who still play instruments, write and sing their own material. Meaning they play more local and regional artists who will never get mainstrean airtime because they are not backed with major record label money.

There are still GREAT artists out there making great music, they are just on the "underground" scene or selling their materials over the web because mainstream radio won't give them a chance.

Sorry to hijack your post with a post of my own :)
  • Marvalus · 6 months ago
    Hey KayC...thanks for dropping by!

I listen to internet radio also...but I will email you for a list of spots so we can compare!

And no need to apologize...feel free to come back anytime!

I watched the show, and for all intents and purposes, I thought it was o.k. given the amount of time they had to pull it together. But, I gotta tell you that I didn't get Beyonce with the nun/angel outfit - and as much as I love Ving, I have no idea what the hell he was doing or why. And Lil Wayne - well all I can say is "why! why! why!" I thought the young girls coming out on stage with him was waaaaayyyyyyy off, inappropriate, and just plain effed-up.

But, Eddie cracked me up big time!
