Conversations With Marva: Old School Friday: It’s The Blues, Baby!

I'm liking your choices this week! Yeah Etta been speaking her mind - but with a voice like that and the dues she's paid, I guess she can do that. But, I do wish she'd stayed quiet...

Gotta a good one for you at SjP's! Hope you get a chance to stop by.

Great picks! Man, I love Etta James and also started to post her but all that crap she been talking put her on my "Kicked To The Curb" list (at least for now!). So I had to go in a different direction!

    Great choices!

Etta should be glad that her career is being highlighted while she is still alive! There are legends that are not appreciated until they are long gone. She definitely worked this tune.

I picked BB too. He is a true blues man and a legend.

    Happy OSF to you!

You already know I had B.B. King this week. :)

Etta and B. B., two of the greatest of all times! I had a video cassette called B. B. and Friends, in which these two performed together. Classic stuff! Happy OSF.

    Hey Marv,

Nice pick with Etta James, but I'm going to need her to stop acting like she has turrets syndrome and quit trying to beat people down for singing her songs. LOL

    Happy OSF!

Nothing beats "The Thrill is Gone" for me. That was that ish from back in the day that you knew as a kid and would try to sing it with all your heart. Like you knew what the thrill was and you really missed it. LOL

Two great choices, part of singing the blues is expressing what's in your heart. Sorry Beyonce, byt Etta was just keeping in real, or liquored. I love Etta's voice it's full of emotion and she was born into a world of pain.

My best friend and I use to play The Thrill Is Gone in 5th grade. We thought we were so ahead of every body in our musical taste...Now that I think about it we were. What 10 year old listens to BB King, we did that's who...

B.B will be EVERYWHERE I am sure. :)

    Happy OSF lovely.

I have not ever seen that video of Etta. Thank you. :-) And B.B., can't really go wrong with that man. The blues actually makes sense the day before Valentine's Day. A lot of people get the blues b/c their babies are gone around this time. Just before Valentine's Day, a lot of people break up.

I love me some BB King... I am stuck on Etta James I'd rather go blind....

    Happy OSF Marvalus!

You sho' 'nuff hit it on the head with Sister Etta James (real name Jamesetta Hawkins). This sister is bad, bad, BAD when it comes to layin' down the blues. Etta is the real deal for real. Her longtime guitar player Bobby Murray is a good friend of mine.

And BB King? Nothing more needs be said.
  • Villager · 10 months ago
Happy OSF! I disagree with the way that Etta spoke out against Beyonce ... however, I got no problems with her voice. The sista can SANG!

If the theme this week is the 'blues', then your blog readers should settle for nothing less than Mo' Better Blues!

    peace, Villager

Two great choices. I saw Etta at Jazz Fest a few years ago and she puts on a show that could shame a performer half her age. She is priceless and a classic. BB is great also, never had the chance to see him yet but hope to.

That Etta James Rock Me Baby is really hot.
