Conversations With Marva: Commentary: Luther Vandross

  • Orville · 1 year ago
Luther Vandross was an amazing singer even though I have never been married before I love his song "Here and now". Whenever I hear that song it has a special space in my heart it is so romantic. I think it is sad that Luther wasn't able to be himself in the public sphere he wasn't able to be "out" and declare that he was a gay black man. Now of course, Luther's private life is his personal business but I can't help but feel he had an intense "fear" that people would not support him if he did come out. I think this is the tragedy of Luther's life that he wasn't able to really be himself.

O - It is a beautiful song...as are many of his others...no one could sing a ballad like Luther...

Although we all "knew," we didn't "know," you know what I mean? I agree that it was his business, and he chose to live his life behind closed doors, so I don't fault him for that...
