Conversations With Marva: Commentary: An Environment of Disrespect

Great post. Great site. I have a son and a daughter and we work every moment to teach them compassion and right from wrong. You have to start at home and you have to speak up. Thanks for speaking up here.

"M" i am going to be honest. I have lost faith in the majority of our youth. This world eventually is going to be left in the hands of only a few capable responsible youngsters. the lack of compassion and education is eventually going to lead to the end of human existence.

i hope she survives. and i hope the shooter doesn't.

I pray that the girl survives. Things like this are SO sad. I have a 10 year old son, so I'm trying really hard to have faith in the youth, but so many of them have no guidance. I get so sick of seeing kids with no home training. I try to teach my son right from wrong, but he gonna have alot ahead of him. This world is going to hell! Fast!

More parents need to take thier job as parent seriously! We are RESPONSIBLE for the young people in our care. When we don't do our job, we unleash heartless criminals into the public!

Julie - Thank you for visiting...I agree that it starts at home, and I do, everyday with my own child...

DB - I can see why you have lost faith. But with kids of your own, what do you see for them?

Rachel - It absolutely breaks my heart when I see things like this...it is an instant reaction to think that the parenting is lacking, and letting our kids grow up on BET and MTV and bullshit music is not going to cut it...

I'm feeling for her. I cannot even think to understand what her family is going through right now.

I'm reading this post and I'm thinking you are right in one sense that these boys don't have a man in their lives to guide them and understand how to treat woman, people, themselves. But then I think about my upbringing. I see how my mother made sure I had everything I need to get ahead in life. I think about how she sacrificed and went without just so I can have. And then I think about you and how you expressed your way of raising your son.

I'm so over the fact that people allow their children to be raised by the streets. Who are the streets and why are they having that type of responsibility? But I digress...

We don't have enough support... Men need to start standing up. And I need to get myself up in a each one teach one, big brother program or something so I can give back.

I don't have kids--yet! I don't have faith in a lot of people in my age group (twenties age range). I think rejection sucks from both parties, I've been rejected it sucks but I'm not going to beat the person or shoot at them. It's a part of life, you won't be everyone's cuppa, I'm sorry.

People want to always try to save "face" in front of their friends when most of them would sell you out, if it comes down to it.

Coming from a single, black chica. The way fella's feel they can "holla" at me is disparaging. Am I supposed to stop to talk to you while you are riding in a car just because you say, "HEY SHAWTY" or whatever clever come on that is poppin' at that time.

    Ugh. Just...ugh.

Urban - I'm right there with you about the streets...just some straight up bullshit that some parents are no longer parents and instead momma and daddy are 125th and whatever...

Cynthia - Exactly! You deal with rejection and move on...why does it have to result in this? Just damn disrespectful the way these young men do girls these days, and the way girls think that it's okay...

I didn't hear of this story before. It is so sad. The sad part is these men felt they had a "right" to take life. A right based on the fact they didn't "value" life. It starts with loving and respecting ourselves. Understanding the core values that make up the human component. Truly a sad state of events.

Dee - It is sad, and disgusting, and disheartening...

Broke my heart when the young lady died, not like, no parent should out live there kids and definitely not for that reason.

The way some of these kids act towards each other is scary, I said it on my blog, you can call it a day if my flirting with a pretty woman is more likely to strike fear in her heart than put a smile on her face.

I'll call it quits for real.
  • Marvalus · 1 year ago
@Clnmike - It is the realization that respecting life is more important than showing out for your boys...I can't even fathom how one gets to shooting at someone for turning them down...

There is no regard for human life. We are all in danger!

Road rage in my city this weekend...a 69-year-old grandmother killed by suspects who also shot the grandchild too over a minor traffic accident. Disturbing.

    Even now, come Lord Jesus!
  • Marvalus · 1 year ago
@Believer 1964 - That is awful! The disregard is at "red" level...

I cried the day I found out that she had died. I have a daughter who is, to me, beautiful and well she is developing. This is one more worry to add to my list for my children.
